Awww. Valentines Day is cute.
Valentines day is also a merchandising vomit fest of cutesie ick that costs a small fortune. But that aside, it's nice.
Yes, it is.
For couples, it's an excuse to spoil each other a little and find some couple time. Or just think about love and why you're together.
For singletons: it's an opportunity to tell the one you'd like to be with that you like them without (necessarily) looking like an idiot.
For those uninterested: spend time with other uninterested types and appreciate your mates.
For those really really uninterested: just ignore it, the way the motherless ignore mothers day, the fatherless ignore fathers day and the way non Christians ignore Christmas and Easter.
And everyone can stock up on cheap chocs (and ick) on 15 Feb.

Funeral
Death is sad, there is no question about that. Death takes a person away from those who love them, it removes any last vestiges of hope, and it is final. It may bring feelings of loss, anger, guilt, frustration. All negative emotions. For those to whom it means relief, which must always be accompanied by guilt for thinking so, then it marks the end of a terrible time, a full stop to a nightmare.
But a funeral is a beautiful thing.
It celebrates and shows respect for the life of an individual, remembering the person they were, not perhaps the person they became as life ebbed away.
It brings together those who loved the departed, allowing them to grieve and say their goodbyes, each cherishing their own memories.
It allows those who love the bereaved to provide support and comfort without awkwardness. Families come together, joined in their sorrow. But they cast aside grievances, catch up on each others' lives, care for each other and promise to meet up before the next funeral - hope for a wedding.
The service is of comfort even if all the words don't make sense. Regardless of belief, the words reiterate that the departed are no longer suffering, their troubles are over.
It would be wrong to say that funerals are nice - nothing that has a prerequisite of death can be nice - but they are full of love and that in itself is wonderful.

iLove
I love my phone. True love, soulmate style. Really, it has all the things I look for* in a soulmate: pedantry, good books and music, fondness of being and ability to be online at all times, shiny good looks and the ability to be in my pocket at all times. If it was a better photographer I think I'd leave my husband for it, but hey, noone's perfect.
Anyway, I'm beside myself (right there, look) with joy today because I got a software upgrade yesterday which has solved some of my (minor) gripes and made it even more wonderful. I now have a Google button on the browser and I can download podcasts direct from iTunes. Wowee. The 2Gb of 38 podcasts are downloading themselves as I type, with no need for a PC at all! Wowee!
AND my Sony Fontopia headphones have been returned to their rightful owner, me, and all sounds perfect again. No more hiss from enforced use of the lesser Creative ones. Ear buds are amazing. I have storymakers on repeat and Cars on, and I can hear Mssrs C and H.
The iPhone is the greatest thing I have ever owned. I love it more than I loved my Volvo (RIP) and I have no idea how I functioned without it. Oh, the fickleness of looking at Other Phones. This is the phone I was born to own. Oh yes.
*possibly hyperbole and indeed, a complete lie.
