New car?

Hmph.
Hmph.

18/3: Car ordered. Car built, ready to deliver, no modifications. Cheapness due to car SITTING THERE NEEDING SOLD.

26/3: Car "arrived at preparation centre"
DVLA to register car 26/3 or 29/3.

30/3: car still not registered. Car sitting at garage now. Expressed concern that delivery by end of March is condition of deal. Explaination that new system caused bottleneck and 68 cars all need to be delivered by end of March. Panic abounds at garage. Usual solution: meeting to discuss what to do. Silent suggestion: do something instead of talking about it.

31/3: DVLA still not registered car. Cannot be insured and taxed until registered. Will be checked hourly, apparently, they'd like to get it done today to "ensure I can take advantage of full discount". AKA they want to ensure they get full commission. Pointed out small fact of being unprepared to take car at higher price. Ho and lebold, car will *definitely* be registered today, even if I don't get it till Thursday/Friday/Saturday (what they'll do with it till Saturday is a mystery).

Sincerely hoping to update later...

UPDATE:

!!!!!!!!

Car is now registered, taxed and insured! For some inexplicable reason it cannot be collected until tomorrow, but still... !!! Price guaranteed, collection tomorrow 5pm.

And so:

Excitement ahoy! NewcartomorrowithasrainsensitivewipersIvealwayswantedthem.

100k

Today was a momentous day for a particular Vectra.

It got washed by hand for the first time ever. Which was remarkably easy and it turns out it doesn't have to always go to the carwash.

It achieved 100,000 miles, with an unnecessary 10.6 mile round trip to make it so.

I have a love/hate relationship
with this car. It was purchased on the rebound from the best car in the world - a Volvo V40 - and one of the main criteria for choosing it was, erm, the colour. And a fateful gravitation towards Vauxhall of course, my first car being a Corsa and ruining all decent cars for me forever. Clarkson would mock heavily, and yes, I would like his approval for entirely rubbish reasons.

Not my car, but the same:

Things I love about my car:

1) the colour
2) the bigness (except when parking)
3) how good it is to drive
4) it's fairly well specced
5) it's mine

Things I hate about my car:

1) it tried to kill me by skidding horribly - twice
2) it has rubbish seats/headrests which is why I got such bad whiplash
3) the driver's window sticks
4) it rattles rather a lot
5) the brakes never feel like they're working. I would prefer not to have to hold my breath every time I braked.

The hate should outweigh the love, the love is mostly shallow.
Except for "It's good to drive". Really, it's very, very good. Other cars just aren't a driveable. Rattle, squeak, skid, swerve... proper.

Conclusion: I need a new(er) Vauxhall. In Satin Red.

Blessings

Happiness today came in the form of:

(1) Snow. (as previously mentioned. It lingers. It falls some more).

It's pretty. It requires the wearing of hats, boots, scarves, big coats and gloves. It's an excuse to not do anything. And it's pretty, not much beats looking out upon a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.

(2) Children.
Mine, that is. Four year olds are amazing and mine are quite definitely more amazing than any others. I say that with no bias whatsoever.

There is a little girl, who doesn't belong to me, who is just as amazing as my boys, but she is a very special little girl indeed.

I worked out today what it is that I do with my time when I'm not specifically doing anything else. I puzzled for a long time as to why I didn't seem to do anything that I used to do. What I do is this: watch, and interact with, but mostly watch my children. They are quite the most entertaining pastime ever. Every new thing they do is astounding and it is quite astonishing that this is still true after 4 years. I expect I'll watch them in amazement all their lives. "Yes, that man there, walking along the road all by himself. That's my son you know."

(3) My car, my phone, nifty gadgets.

Materialistic? Why yes.
Recently I was very close to exchanging my car for a VW. Until I drove the VW for a week and then returned to my own car. It is very, very good to drive. The gearbox is not something I've ever noted before but it turns out to be excellent. We are friends once more, we travel through the snow together and we enjoy it, both.

At some point in every day I stop to think about the brilliance of my phone. It's an iPhone you know. You knew? Goodness! It is quite wonderful, it is a part of me now. I don't care what owning it makes me, I love it. Truly. And yes, I want an iMac because then iTunes will work properly, yes, I know and I know, but I would love that truly too. And I would be all the things that would make me. And I wouldn't care in the slightest.

My car and my phone are now united by means of an itrip. Simple little gadget means the music on my beloved plays through the radio in my quite-loved. This brings me a level of joy that is quite ridiculous.

And that will suffice for a trio of blessings. Snow, children, possessions. Happiness.

Ow.

Not that long ago I was bemoaning the fact that nothing ever happens.
I didn't realise that this was good.
I hurt.
Lots and lots and lots.
I have whiplash. Doesn't sound much, but it's rubbishy rubbish. I am completely crap. I now can't do:

Sitting up for long
Being on the computer (thank you iBaby)
Remembering stuff or understanding things
Driving (but I don't want to)
Turning my head
Using my arms to lift anything heavier than a phone
Bending

But I have many tasty painkillers so I sleep lots. And I've been exempt from doing most things. It's not all bad.
Whiplash! It sounds so nothingy.

My car is relatively unscathed and is merely awaiting a new bumper. I've had a Focus to not drive this week, it's rather nice.
The RAC are the greatest organisation in the world.
Everyone join the RAC. They are amazing in the event of an accident.

Although everyone's been pretty nice, especially the personal injury lawyers sniffing a case.

Not the police, who I blame entirely for the whole thing and who *apparently* don't like affronted missies being stroppily sarcastic at them.

That, I'm sorry to say is that. A pain in the neck is indeed a pain in the neck and so my mind is occupied.

Assumptions

Assumption 1 - a book about using alternatives to the car* suggests that we spend 100 hours a year earning enough money to afford the garage on our house.

Assumption 2 - Gina Ford's advice for potty training suggests we use two pottys, one for the downstairs toilet and one for the upstairs bathroom.

I now feel deprived. We have just the one bathroom, we have no upstairs and we definitely don't have a garage.

What is it with excessive bathrooms anyway? Why do you need more toilets than you have people in the house? Do people that have many-bathroomed houses have peeing parties?

And as for the garage - does anyone keep their car in their garage anyway? It's a depository for unused keep fit equipment, possibly a dartboard, often a freezer, sometimes a tumble drier. Very rarely do you find a car in a garage. Why would you buy one for the car?

So, with two things I don't get the necessity of, I am clearly lacking.

*In the book about not using cars, I got all the way to halfway down page one before my first rant. I like driving.
